Happy Thanksgiving! I had a terrific weekend. Truly. One of the best in a while. Life has been so hectic lately, and even though I usually am a “go-go-go” type of person, it has been a bit too much, even for me! Even though the weekend was chilly, I didn’t mind it. I took my kids out to the park every day, braving the chill. My kids certainly didn’t mind – watching them play despite the windy, chilly weather reminds me of just how much of a whiner us adults can be about the weather. We’re always complaining – “it’s too hot!” “It’s too cold!” “It’s too humid!’ LOL.
I love Thanksgiving. Both of my kids were born around Thanksgiving – one just before, and the other just after. This time of the year I find particularly nostalgic, as both of my boys always become one year older. I also make it a point to make portraits of my boys every Fall. Granted, it is not always my favourite thing to do – the patience that I have for my clients’ children somehow don’t translate that well when it comes to photographing my own two boys! This year, I also discovered how difficult it is to get a photograph of the two of them together! The problem lies not with my almost 5 year old (3 more sleeps!), but with my just-turned-2 years old monkey. He epitomizes the age of the terrible twos!
So I spent a lot of time this weekend trying to get decent photos of my boys. It really is harder photographing your own kids, I kid you not! I managed to capture some fall foliage while my boys frolicked in the park, and I also hauled their butts down to the studio for a quick session. As I looked through the photographs, I could not help feeling a little bit sad – my eldest has grown up so much! I spent a great deal of time tonight looking through his old photographs (even though I really should have been working as I have a little bit of a backlog and am behind in editing!). Just for fun, I thought I’d post one of my favourite photographs of my eldest from when he was just over a year old. Those who have come to my studio would have seen this one and may remember it, given that I have it enlarged as a 24×30 canvas!

Here is one portrait of him that was made today:

Can you believe it? He looks so grown up! My baby is growing up.
Here is a photo of his brother, also made today:

It is quite interesting how different they look (at least they look different to me). Finally, the following photograph is the only good one I managed to get of the two of them together. I can get clients’ children to sit together; why can’t I get my two to do the same?!
